Captivating!”

--- Linda

Inspiring!”

--- Scott B.

A feel good book.

--- Hannah F.

“I like the easy, accessible style.”

--- Julia Forster, author of “Shadow Jumper”

“Extremely intriguing.”

--- Lisa Lickel, author of five novels, including “The Map Quilt”

“Good straight forward storytelling and the hook at the end of Chapter 1 works well, when we think the excitement is over. ... The writing is quite good.”

--- Tod Schneider, author of “The Lost Wink”

“It was an enjoyable read. Once I got into it, it kept my interest to see where it was going.”

--- Jill Badzinski, former editor West Bend (Wis.) Daily News

“I like the story. Carl reminds me of Patrick Bateman in ‘American Psycho.’ They are both loners and have a fondness for expensive clothes. I like the description in the first chapters of his interaction, or rather lack of it with his colleagues. I think it's good.”

--- Maria Gibbons, author of “Past, Present, Future?”

The American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association held its annual awards banquet this morning in Indianapolis.

I took third place in Newspaper Feature Writing for my story on Reed Sorenson's NASCAR Nationwide Series victory at Road America. It is my third award in two years from the national organization, established in 1955, dedicated to the coverage of racing.

It's very exciting for me to get the award.

Last year, I took first place in two categories: Newspaper Feature Writing and Newspaper News Writing.

Why you should support local authors

Why you should shop Indie?

When you shop at an independently owned business, your entire community benefits:
The Economy:
·        Spend $100 at a local and $68 of that stays in your community. Spend the same $100 at a national chain, and your community only sees $43.
·        Local businesses create higher-paying jobs for our neighbors.
·        More of your taxes are reinvested in your community--where they belong.
The Environment:
  • Buying local means less packaging, less transportation, and a smaller carbon footprint.
  • Shopping in a local business district means less infrastructure, less maintenance, and more money to beautify your community.
The Community:
  • Local retailers are your friends and neighbors—support them and they’ll support you.
  • Local businesses donate to charities at more than twice the rate of national chains.
  • More independents means more choice, more diversity, and a truly unique community.
Now is the time to stand up and join your fellow individuals in the IndieBound mission supporting local businesses and celebrating independents.

Wednesday's discussion

Last night, the Jack Russell Memorial Library hosted me to do a reading/discussion of my debut novel, "A Life Worth Dreaming About."

It was enjoyable and I'm grateful for the people that attended. I was able to sell at least one book and got a few others at least interested. It is just another small step toward my dream. And thank you to those who attended last night's discussion.

Pictures have been posted on my website: Nicholas Dettmann online

The next appearance I have scheduled is June 26 at the Kewaskum Public Library.

Milestone reached

Staying in my groove on book No. 2, I passed 20,000 words on my next book. I'm incredibly excited with its progress. I believe it'll be even better than "A Life Worth Dreaming About."

Five chapters of book No. 2 have been written, which is about a quarter of the way from my goal for the novel.

Stay tuned as I continue to work toward the goal of having the book finished in July.

The Mobile App

You can get on-the-go updates regarding your favorite author, Nicholas Dettmann, with his FREE mobile app.

It is currently available on Android. It will be available soon on the iPhone and iPad.

More stores added

Two more stores graciously took in my novel, "A Life Worth Dreaming About." That brings the total to 13 around Wisconsin. Sometime this week, I hope to venture into Northern Illinois or even Northern Indiana.

Here are the two new store locations, in addition to the Wauwatosa location I blogged about earlier:

Books & Company
Whitman Park Shopping Center
1039 Summit Ave.
Oconomowoc, WI 53066

Martha Merrell's Books and Cafe
231 W. Main St.
Waukesha, WI 53186

Both of these locations took in five copies of the novel.

With the Waukesha location, every Friday from June through October, there is an event called, "Freeman Friday Night Live." It goes from 6:30-9 p.m. It is a downtown event with six outdoor music stages and extended shopping hours for all stores on Main St., including author appearances at Martha Merrell's. I'm looking at a potential July 6 or July 13 date.

New book site

"A Life Worth Dreaming About" is now available at The Little Read Book, 7603 W. State St., Wauwatosa, WI.

Please stop by today and pick up your copy! You'll help out an independent author and an independent bookstore! Thank you for your support.

First check

Got my first check in the mail from book sales. Pretty cool.

I've got some time off this week so my hope is to really hash out at book No. 2. Plus probably make some stops at stores.

If you have gotten, "A Life Worth Dreaming About," please don't hesitate to let me know what you thought of it. I'd really appreciate it. Your opinion is important to me.
